MLA PICNIC GREAT SUCCESS DESPITE RAIN

SURREY - Despite a rain-filled day, the 10th annual community picnic and barbecue hosted by Surrey – Tynehead MLA Dave S. Hayer and Surrey North MP Dona Cadman drew more than 800 people to Holly Park on Saturday, August 7.

“It was wonderful to see so many people turn out for the Guildford Days event,” says Hayer. “Those who attended enjoyed free hotdogs, fruit, corn samosas, soft drinks and water. This annual barbeque is a great way for me to meet constituents, and an even greater way for them to take the opportunity to discuss with me any concerns or issues they may have.”

During the day long event, more than 1,250 chicken and ‘juicy jumbo’ hot dogs were served along with 600 samosas, 12 cases of peaches, plums and nectarines, 400 pounds of blueberries, 600 cobs of corn and dozens of cases of soft drinks and water.

In addition to all the food that was provided free to those who attended, on Monday, August 9, Dave and Dona also donated to Surrey Food Bank six cases of water, 70 dozen cans of soft drinks, more than 750 wieners and chicken dogs and a crate of other food containing beans, a large variety of soups, packaged pasta, tomato sauce, sugar, salt, mustard, relish and ketchup.

The barbecue and picnic was also held in support of the Dogwood Anti-Poverty Society.

Dave congratulates all the volunteers, those who attended, and the Guildford Lions Club, Surrey Community Crime Prevention Society, Rotary Club of Surrey and the many organizations involved, who provided valuable information about their initiatives, for making the 10th annual picnic such a successful event.
